For the past few months, I've been working on my nebula/galaxy string lanterns. Inspired by these galaxy lamps, I decided to make my own because the price was a bit much for my budget.

My choice of materials: acrylic, nail polish, water color, and glow in the dark paint.
My tools: a toothbrush, paintbrushes, push pins, toothpicks, Q-tips, old unwanted earrings, my fingers

I began the process really slowly and used watercolor as a foundation for where my colors would go. And then one by one, I caked on the nail polish and acrylic. Using nail polish has its benefits--a lot of nail polishes have a slight shimmer and they added to the glowy starry look of galaxies. I used a plain white nail polish + toothpicks to create the stars. The push pins, toothpicks, and earrings were used to poke holes into them. And the glittery nail polishes served as tiny minute stars. It adds a nice dimension to the lamps, I feel. I love the look of the lamps I was inspired by, but I wanted to give mine a personal touch. I'm honestly really tacky, so the glitter did quite well.

I added more depth by splattering on white stars with the toothbrush and brushes. And now I'm on my final step: the glow. I decided to further my own ~touch~ by adding glow in the dark paint on the stars.

Honestly, I'm nowhere near finished. It began while I was in school still, and I didn't have much time to work on it because I was so busy. Now that I have a bit more time, I feel it's picked up quite a bit of progress. At the moment, I'm smoothing out the colors, adding some stars and depth, poking more holes, adding on the glow and hoping to buy more lanterns so I can make some for friends and perhaps sell a few.

An update: Taobao haul #2

I've been missing in action from this blog, mainly due to laziness. But I'm back and happy to announce I've ordered more from Taobao and the package should be arriving this week or early late next week. This time, I ordered through Pruany.com instead of Taobaonow.com because I hated how marked up the domestic shipping was AND the commission fees were nothing to shake a stick at. The commissions are much lower with Pruany.com

001: Moschino replica 100% Wool sweater
002: Fawn print shirt x3
003: Spiked furry brown beret
004: Fur + lace mori-style scarf
005: Black/brown slouchy fur beret
006: Takoyaki hanging cloth sign
007: Faux fawn fur hoodie
008: Faux fawn fur collar
009: Claw ring

Here's a preview of what's to come. As you can see, I'm quenching my thirst for fawn fur pattern fabric. I actually bought three of the shirts; it's a bit excessive, but I want to cut two of them up to make into a cardigan.

The package is currently ready to depart China soon, so it'll be here in about 5-8 days. For me, EMS has always arrived from 2-7 days, so I hope it all arrives before the cold goes away.

Taobao Haul & Review

Taobao.com is essentially the Chinese Ebay and it's even cheaper than Ebay. However, most sellers don't ship overseas, so many of us ~gaijin are left to rely on middleman services, like TaobaoSpree and TaobaoNow. After reading and watching reviews on the more popular services, I decided to use TaobaoNow for their convenient cart feature and ease of use.

Here's how everything went:
JUL18: Placed order.
JUL20: Invoiced for all the items (22 total)
JUL21: Invoice paid.
JUL25: 2 items unavailable, 1 item cancelled.
JUL30: Ask about delayed item (1 week late).
AUG01: Last item arrives, invoice for shipping is sent.
AUG02: Shipping invoice paid.
AUG03: Package sent through EMS.
AUG10: Package arrives.
This is my first time ordering from Taobao, and it went pretty smoothly, despite the time it took for my last item to arrive. Regardless, TaobaoNow was very accommodating; the staff was very helpful and answered all my questions thoroughly. I know English is an issue with a lot of middleman services, but their English was perfect. And yep, as I expected them to, they called me "dear" a lot. LOL Anyway, I highly recommend TaobaoNow as a Taobao middleman service. It can be a bit expensive, and they're not the cheapest service around, but they're reliable.

Also, the outstanding balance from the cancelled/unavailable items rolled over to the second shipping cost, so shipping was almost halved.

Now, Taobao's notorious for being a hit or miss. But I guess the rest of my review will speak for itself.

The Unveiling
Ignore Charles, he wouldn't move from my shot, lol. Anyway, the box was mildly beaten up and decently taped up. Not as bad as the tape monsters some people end up with. Within the box, everything was in a giant trash bag and taped over.

So I ordered two pillows with stuffing. The two white piles of fluff are actually vacuum sealed pillow stuffing. Saves a lot of space. The jewelry was inside the crossbones bag.

Everything was nice, safe, and undamaged from shipping. TaobaoNow did a pretty good job with the packaging.

H&M Basic Stud Set 10/10
I guess they're actually from H&M... I picked these out because I lost all my other basic stud earrings. Good quality, satisfied.
ASOS Silver Spiked+Dangle Ear Cuff 8/10
The cuff itself is sturdy and of decent quality. The spike dangles... not so much. They seem to be hollow? I took off 2 points for this reason. I realize having a bunch of really heavy metal dangling from your ear doesn't exactly feel nice, but it still could have been better quality.
Vivienne Westwood Pearl Orb 10/10
Love this so much. I can't afford to buy real Vivienne Westwood necklaces because I'm pretty reckless with my jewelry, so this is a pretty good alternative. It does indeed come with the little Vivienne Westwood jewelry box and the necklace itself was wrapped in plastic as well.
Vivienne Westwood Gunmetal Orb Earrings 10/10
These are awesome. They're a little bigger than I thought they would be, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Vivienne Westwood Orb Necklace 5/10
It's crooked. My first replica orb necklace was purchased on Ebay (also from China) and it was perfect. It broke, so I decided to get a replacement. Sad how crooked this one is...
Galaxy Skull Hi-Lo Top 9/10
It's pretty nice. I knew it would be long, but not this long? It's pretty long. Suits 5'7" and taller. The print is slightly blurry, but the material is really soft and it's a cool shirt overall.
Double Cross Dangle Earrings 9/10
I like it. I pretty much bought it only for the black cross in the back... because it'd be cool to mix and match studs with this.
Crown Cross Earrings 8/10
The crosses look kind of funky, but they're nice enough. More of an impulse buy than anything. They're pretty nice, but on hindsight, I probably should've bought something else.
ASOS Silver Spiked+Dangle Ear Cuff #2 9/10
Same as the other one; weird hollow spike. Still pretty nice and more casual than the other spike.
ASOS Gunmetal Dangle Ear Cuff 10/10
This one doesn't have hollow spikes! It's decently heavy, but it still feels pretty comfortable, not at all overwhelming. I like it.
Spiked Hair Tie 10/10
Pretty decent quality, the elastic doesn't seem like it'd just die if I tugged it a little too hard. Spikes are adjustable as well.
Asymmetrical Galaxy Skirt 10/10
Damn, another impulse buy. But I like it a lot. It's really soft, surprisingly, and the print isn't too blurry thankfully.
Vivienne Westwood Flat Pearl Orb 5/10
A lot smaller than expected... also, it's crooked too. Ugh. Regret buying this... thankfully, it was somewhat cheap. Not really. Whatever.
Layered Chains with Cross 4/10
The chain links keep coming loose, so I'm constantly putting the chain(s) back together. Annoying. The cross looks pretty beaten up too. Regret this.

Eiffel Tower & Union Jack Pillows 10/10
These are awesome. I expected them to be ugly, deflated, and small, but was pleasantly surprised. The material is decently soft and the prints are pretty clear. Love them. Thinking about getting more from them.
Vivienne Westwood Diamante Horn Tiara 20/10
Saved the best for last. THESE ARE AWESOME. Beyond awesome. I don't even know where to begin. They look awesome, they feel great, and they're very me. Absolutely love them. Funny enough, these were the ones that took a week longer to arrive at TaobaoNow's office. So glad I ordered these. May order a second one as back-up.

Overall, my haul was a success. A few ~meh~ items only, I'm pretty happy with what I got. I left out some items that didn't belong to me, but anyway. Yep. Going to DIY some jeans soon, and I'll blog about my Ebay "haul" later.

Ikea: Benzyland Antique Map Pillow

Pretty much LOVE mostly anything not tacky with maps, so when I saw this at Ikea today, it took everything in me to not buy it. But by no means is this pillow expensive--it's only 12.99 right now. I'm on a budget, and I'm not allowed to buy things I don't really need at the moment, so I had to pass it up. But it's really nice!

It's pretty soft considering it's supposed to be a decorative pillow. It's not two sided because it has buttons on the back for cleaning the pillow cover and replacing the insert. 50x50 if I'm not mistaken. Awesome pillow.

Wholesale7.net Review

I've been really iffy about buying from wholesale7.net. There's only about 5(?) reviews on them that I've seen on youtube and on various fashion blogs. I placed my order on the 24th for the Jeffrey Campbell spiked Lita dupes and ordered nothing else. The shoes costed around 21 dollars and with shipping at around 16, the order ended up at 37 dollars. A steal? Definitely.

I decided to give them a chance and ordered. My order was being "prepared," according to the order status and today they e-mailed me back to tell me that my shoes were not in stock, apparently. :/!! These same shoes were also labeled "NEW" and I made sure to talk to customer support about the shoes before ordering. They immediately credited my account "37.17" at least, and unlike wholesale-dress.net, they credited the shipping too. I'm currently awaiting a full refund to my Paypal account, since I don't think I'll be buying from them anytime soon.

I talked to two customer support reps regarding the shoes and my order: Lily was infuriatingly unhelpful and Kate tried to accommodate to my needs. All in all, I won't be ordering from them for a long while... at least not until they step up their game.

EDIT 7/28 They have refunded me and had me pay the Paypal fees. Great service they have here, charge me an extra 2 dollars for their own blunder. Yeah, definitely not shopping here again. Not for a long while.

Michael Antonio "Danna" Gladiator Sandals

I ordered these new gladiator sandals in size 8.5. Unfortunately, Discount Coast did not have size 8. My standard size for sandals are around 7.5-8, but I didn't want to risk buying shoes too small for me.

Shipped within 2-3 days of payment with Ontrac and arrived the day after announcing they had shipped my shoes. They arrived in a cardboard box and were individually wrapped lightly inside.

When worn, the ankle straps were somewhat loose, unfortunately. The fit looks "boy-ish," which was kind of what I was going for anyway. The toe straps of the sandals were rather tight compared to the ankle straps. My other pair of gladiator shoes had torn on me, so I needed a quick and cheap replacement and these suffice, despite the loose fit. If I had a choice though, I definitely would've gone down a size.

Fit: 7/10
Look: 9/10
Comfort: 5/10
Shipping: 10/10
Price: 9.5/10
